DogRescue.org is the website for the The Humane Society of Southern Maryland and York Pennsylvania. The Humane Society is a non-profit group that provide services to Maryland and surrounding metropolitan areas including Virginia and the District of Columbia as well as York Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas. All staffing is provided by unpaid volunteers and the organization has no animal shelter facilities. All animals taken in are housed in foster homes and cared for by volunteers.And since we love animals, you'll find lots of information on animals up for adoption from other rescue organizations!
- Providing companion animal information and assistance thru pet adoption and foster care
- Curbing pet overpopulation problems by providing information and referral services
- Facilitating the development of a low cost spay/neuter clinic for the County
- Establishing an educational outreach program to deal with animal cruelty issues; spay/neuter; and pet ownership
- Monitoring animal cruelty in our area and aiding in the elimination of this behavior
- Establishing a coalition of groups dedicated to animal rights/animal welfare and specifically a breed rescue coalition for the metropolitan area.
- Interface with local governmental agencies to promote the increased adoption of abandoned companion animals in the county
- Pet adoption day helpers / transporters
- Foster "parents" for dogs and cats
- To help with legislative research andr community involvement issues
- To help with spay/neuter counseling
- Fund raising / grant writing
- Spay/neuter facility committee members
- P.G. County shelter monitors / helpers
- Cruelty investigators - rescuers
- Phone tree callers - to reach membership by phone/fax
- Special events coordinator
- Transporters - to vets / from shelter
- Media/publicity coordinator
